Using art to close the age gap in East London

Uniting young and old

We all have opinions about other people. Magic Me brings young and older people together, to challenge negative stereotypes and forge relationships between generations and cultures.

The sessions are primarily in London, but we also work nationally and occasionally internationally. Our groups are made up of ten young and ten older people.

First we talk to each age group separately, to discuss their feelings about the other generation, and start thinking about how to relate better.  Then the two different groups meet up weekly (for two hours at a time) for twelve weeks to work on an art project. We provide two professional artists to help them develop their creative ideas.

It’s a chance for different generations to share skills, break down stereotypes and develop real and lasting relationships.

Each twelve week project costs £5,000. That covers the artists’ fees, workshop and crafts materials, publicity, transport, co-ordination and an end of project celebration.

The See The Difference target will fund a project in Tower Hamlets, East London.

You'll See The Difference...

As soon as we’ve raised our target, we’ll put on the project. And at the end of the project, we’ll post some photos and quotes from the participants, telling you what they enjoyed about the sessions, and what they learnt about the other generation.
