Variety Club changes the lives of sick, disabled and disadvantaged children in many ways, including providing electric wheelchairs.

We want to change Christian’s life – and need your help to do so.

Christian is 10 and suffers from Morquio Type A syndrome. It’s a fairly rare form of dwarfism with many serious consequences, which include abnormal heart and skeletal development. Basically, Christian’s body is not growing at the same pace as his internal organs, so they are under increasing pressure. In particular he has real difficulty breathing – and can only walk a very short distance before he’s completely exhausted. So he spends far too much time literally “on the sidelines” – having to watch as his friends play.

His manual wheelchair has severe limitations. An Active Mustang electric wheelchair would give him so much more physical capability and flexibility, independence and freedom – and would let him do things that are very special to him, for example (as Christian himself says): “Going to the same school as my friends, and going out with them after school”

That’s really not too much to ask for, is it?

To get Christian this wheelchair will cost Variety Club £7,828 – but it will change his life. Any contribution you can make to help us raise that funding would be enormously appreciated.

You'll See The Difference...

Something as simple as going to school with his friends is enough to make Christian happy.

We’ll let you know as soon as we’ve raised enough for the chair, and on the very first day he takes it to secondary school, we’ll show you, so you can see how your donation helped change his life.

THANKS TO YOU CHRISTIAN HAS A NEW WHEELCHAIR!

Christian's new wheelchair

Update: 31st August 2011

Dear Matthew

With your support, as well as that of our regular donors, we are delighted to tell you that Christian now has a new wheelchair which he is using to get to his new local secondary school as well as to get out and about more socially. Here’s what Christian’s mum had to say:

“We are still overwhelmed by how generous everyone has been and find it extremely difficult to put into words the difference the chair will make to Christian’s future.”

Thanks for helping to make this project happen.
