A beautiful game
JOB DONE: SCROLL DOWN TO "SUCCESS STORY"Street Leagues football sessions are about more then just football. They're a way for us to reach disadvantaged young people and adults and help empower them to change their lives. The players at our sessions are all from difficult backgrounds. Many are outside of work or education, some live in hostels, have mental health issues or learning difficulties, or are in rehab for drug or alchohol abuse. The sessions themselves encourage discipline, teamwork, consistency and commitment. And we can begin to talk to the players about other courses and programmes designed to get them back into work or education. The women's match days take pace monthly - in London, Glasgow and the North East. Six to eight teams (often made up of women from similar backgrounds) battle it out for the championship. £500 will pay for a women's match day in London. When we raise enough to hold the next match day, we'll send you photos of that day's champions.
Update: 20th September 2011 YOU GAVE WOMEN FOOTBALLERS A GREAT GAME WITH BIG POSSIBILITIES...Dear Kiki, Kulbinder and Sylvia Firstly thank you from the women you’ve helped. Your support, and some from our regular supporters, meant we could hold a Match Day on International Women's Day. The aim of Match Days like these is to make sure more women get to experience the sociability, confidence building and life changing learning that Street League offers, so we challenge our male participants to bring along their female friends, wives, girlfriends, sisters, aunts or mothers. This helps support our male footballers in their life changes and offers the opportunity to turn a life around to women who need help as well. I’ve added some pictures from the day, so you can see some of the action you made happen. Thank you. David and the coaches at Street League |
