Tell me more...Before POWER started in Laos, services for amputees were scarce. We were invited to help in 1995 by the Ministry of Health and started a nationwide programme partnered with the government. Then in 1997 we set up a local organisation called COPE (Co-operative Prosthetic and Orthotic Enterprise), so that in time the service could be run and managed by Lao staff. This was achieved by the end of 2005. Thank you for supporting POWER International
Update: 09/12/11 Dear Miss Crick, Daniel, Tom and Philip, Your donations have helped us fit Miss PaNorm with a new prosthetic leg. Miss PaNorm is a 26 year old student who lives with her family in Vientiane and is in her final year of studying accountancy at the International College. When she was just seven, she was involved in a road accident which resulted in one of her legs being amputated. "Many thanks for the support that I have been given, your donation is very useful for my life in supporting myself to do my daily activities. It means I can walk freely, go to school, join social activities and help my family's work! In the future after I graduate, I would like to work with organisations that focus on disabled people's development work." Miss PaNorm Miss PaNorm will need a replacement leg at regular intervals during her life. Without donations we would not be able to continue supplying this service free to those who have no way of paying for it. This young woman has a good future because she is mobile and able to attend college. Our thanks to See The Difference and the wonderful donors who have made this possible.
