JOB DONE: SCROLL DOWN TO 'SUCCESS STORY' TO FIND OUT MORE.
HELP DISABLED ADULTS MAKE MUSICHow do I do that?We hold adult music sessions for people with special educational needs. There are around 15 people in each session and they each have the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument and develop their musical skills. Help them continue to express themselves by supporting one of their music sessions. What does it cost?£75 will pay for one adult group music session for c.15 people. When will I see the difference?Scroll Down to 'Success Story' to see the difference made.
Tell me more...Plymouth Music Zone provides music sessions for adults and children with physical or mental disabilities in the Plymouth and Devon area (the video above is from our Scope-based session for those with Cerebral Palsy). The students learn to play instruments, but it’s about more than just musical skill. Working in a group like this helps develop confidence, self-esteem and, particularly for our adults who cannot communicate verbally, a way to express themselves. We like to work with the same group weekly, for up to ten weeks at a time, to allow each set of students to focus on a particular performance or recording.
Update: 06.01.12 Dear Jill and Philip Thanks to your kind donation we were able to part fund a group music session for adults with learning disabilities last July. The attached photo shows them doing a warm up with some 'boomwhackers' before they then moved onto using lots of other high tech instruments that meant they could play music together, some for the first time. The photo below shows one of the participants, Jonathan, who has particularly benefited from these kind of sessions. His confidence has developed to such an extent that he now volunteers with us and has moved onto doing a mentoring project with one of the Music Leaders. This kind of progression has allowed Jonathan to live more independantly and he's even taken up sailing- music has indeed put wind in his sails! Many thanks, Debbie Geraghty Development Director |
