Give fun and friendship to a child who can't communicate
JOB DONE...SCROLL DOWN THE PAGE TO "SUCCESS STORY" TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE MADEGIVE FUN AND FRIENDSHIP TO A CHILD WHO CAN'T COMMUNICATEHow do I do that?At I CAN's Meath School in Surrey children who can't communicate can enjoy an overnight stay where they receive plenty of support and attention from I CAN’s care team. Children get to have fun, try new activities and attend local children’s clubs which they can’t easily do without specialist support. What does it cost?£100 helps pay for the staff costs (that’s the care team, a nurse and school premises staff) as well as food, petrol and other costs related to an overnight stay. When will I see the difference? When we have raised enough for ten sleepovers (£1,000). What will I see? Some of the children that your money helped will show you how much it meant by making thank you cards and letters - scroll down the page to "success stories" to see the difference made.
Tell me more...This project is for children like Jenny, who features in the video, who go to I CAN’s Meath School for children who can’t communicate. At home, during evenings and weekends, Jenny has no friends to play with because other children can’t understand her. This is the case for most children with severe communication difficulties. I CAN’s overnight project offers Jenny and children like her 10 overnight stays per year in the residential accommodation at I CAN’s Meath School near Woking which provides high quality education, care and therapy to over 50 children with severe communication difficulties from Surrey and surrounding counties. These life-changing sleepovers give children a chance to be included in friendship groups and opportunities to develop social confidence, self care and other life skills. It gives children with severe communication difficulties opportunities to do things that most children take for granted. £100 is worked out from adding up all the total annual costs, including extra staff - which include the care team, a nurse, family support worker, and school premises staff, plus food, transportation and building costs. The total for the whole year is then divided by the number of pupils and sessions offered during the year. Thank you!

This is what your sleepover means to us. Thank you!
Please do spread the word using the sharing buttons in the top right hand corner and help make more sleepovers happen.
Thank you to another of the pupils for making the "Thank You" for the top of the page.
Transcript: We can’t thank Meath, especially the overnight team and the benefactors whose generosity allow this scheme to continue, enough. Words can’t describe what it means to us (well one word may give you an inkling – "respite") and most importantly, more important than anything else is the benefit Megan experiences. She belongs, she is included in the true sense of the word, she is socially & emotionally safe and nurtured, she is accepted for who she is, no ifs no buts. As her parents who witness her isolation, this is priceless to know how secure she is on these "sleepovers".
If you like this...You might want to provide a half-day play session for disabled children in Surrey. Alternatively, you can give another sleepover here. |
