Get a child into school
HELP BIGGINS SEND A CHILD TO SCHOOL
How do I do that?As a patron of the HOPE Foundation, Christopher Biggins is passionate about ensuring all children have the same chances in life – and the kids rag picking on the Bhagra dump in Kolkata are no exception. A place at school will give them the chance to start a new life. What does it cost?It costs just £4 a week to provide one child living on the Bhagra dump the care they need to prepare them for school and then to stay there (that includes tuition, food, medical care and emotional support). When will I see the difference? In the New Year we’ll let you know how many weeks of schooling you’ve helped to provide for the kids of the Bhagra dump. Scroll down to 'success story' to see the difference that has already been made. What will I see? You'll see photos of the children who are now enjoying school thanks to you.
Tell me more...“I might have been King of the Jungle, but even eating cockroaches could not prepare me for what I was to find on the sweltering, stinking Bhagra dump in Kolkata. The sight of people living on this cesspit overwhelmed me with anger and sadness. Children in the Hope Foundation projects in Kolkata have a 75% higher chance of finishing their education – now that’s overwhelming. No agency has ever managed to do anything for these kids before. For these children, living in a slum would be a relief. This is the end of the line in Kolkata – let’s stop more children’s lives from being thrown away.” - Christopher Biggins
Thanks to you 114 children have enjoyed a week at school!UPDATE: MARCH 2011 Dear Dominic, H A Marriott, Jas, Linda, Lisa, S Marriott, John, Richard, Vincent and Yvette I wanted to tell you just how amazing you are - as thanks to you 114 children of the Bhagar dump in Calcutta have enjoyed another week at school. Classes run five days a week with six teachers, starting at 7.30am and finishing at 7pm. As well as educational guidance, the children are given nutritious food, access to health check-ups and hygiene training. In the video above you can see Cathy and Eva, two of our volunteers, with the kids at our Centre in Bhagar. Your support is giving these children a realistic chance of getting an education, a childhood beyond rag picking and a chance of a decent future. A huge big thank you from me and the children of the Bhagar dump. Love from Julie-Kate Olivier & Biggins PS: We'd love it if you could help us spread the word by liking the project on facebook, adding us to your See The Difference profile and telling your friends. |
