Compassion in World Farming campaigns to end cruel factory farming.

Intensive factory farming systems impose mindless suffering on billions of farm animals reared for food around the world.

Compassion in World Farming was founded in 1967 by a British farmer who became horrified by the development of modern, intensive factory farming. Today, we campaign peacefully to end all cruel factory farming practices. We believe that the biggest cause of cruelty on the planet deserves a focused, specialised approach – so we only work on farm animal welfare.

Farm animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do. Our passion for our work is supported by hard evidence and fact. This underpins all our campaigns and makes us the leading experts in our field.

Our award winning undercover investigations have exposed the reality of intensive farming and brought the plight of farm animals to the attention of the world's media.

Our political lobbying and campaigning has resulted in the EU recognising animals as sentient beings, capable of feeling pain and suffering. We have also secured landmark agreements to outlaw the barren battery cage for egg-laying hens, narrow veal crates and sow stalls across Europe

Our Good Egg Awards will benefit over 20 million laying hens every year. Winners so far include Marks & Spencer, Waitrose, Sainsbury's, McDonald’s, Unilever (including Hellmann’s mayonnaise in the UK) and the National Trust – all of whom won a Good Egg Award for sourcing only barn or free-range eggs, instead of eggs from caged hens

There are however, still many challenges we have to face if we are to realise our vision of a world where all farm animals are treated with compassion and respect and where cruel factory farming practices end.
