Give a disfigured person confidence
GIVE A DISFIGURED PERSON CONFIDENCEHow do I do that?By paying for someone with a disfigurement to have a counselling call from a trained professional and learn new ways to deal with the attention they get. What does it cost?It costs £10 per counselling call. When will I see the difference? When we’ve raised enough for 50 counselling calls (£500). What will I see? We'll tell you how you helped the people that received those calls feel more socially confident.
Tell me more...We’re not going to say that £10 will change the fact that people with facial disfigurements attract attention. £10 won’t stop the kid staring in the supemarket, or the fact that the cashier didn’t look up when she handed over the change. £10 won’t stop people asking questions either. But just because people with disfigurements attract attention, it doesn’t mean they have to struggle with it. It may be a man, woman or child. They may have a disfigurement from birth, or as a result of an accident. Whatever the situation, the Changing Faces trained counsellors will be able to suggest strategies to make the situation easier. It might be ways to answer questions about their appearance, to signal that the interest is welcome, or that they would prefer not to talk about it. Each is designed to let the person with the disfigurement handle the situation in a way that works for them.
