Protecting England's countryside

Protect the Green Belt

England is home to some magnificent countryside, places where we can relax, enjoy nature and build happy memories. Did you know that Green Belt land surrounds 88% of the population?

But every year we lose 800 hectares of that land to development – that’s the size of over 1600 football pitches.

Campaign to Protect Rural England works to protect our countryside, by campaigning and lobbying the Government. We want to encourage Government to uphold existing policy and carry out an urgent review of the latest threats to the Green Belt. And with so many countryside lovers wanting to help protect the land, education is a key tool in successful campaigning.

That’s why we run regular workshops, offering advice about planning policy and campaigning tips and lessons. Most of the people being trained are volunteers, giving up their time to be actively involved in CPRE, they will live and work in the area in which they are campaigning and are a very committed and passionate group of people.

The experienced planning campaigner leading the workshops will use his knowledge of the planning system and Greenbelt policy to educate these volunteers on how to use their time efficiently and most effectively, how to raise the profile of the Greenbelt, how to oppose unsuitable development, and how to encourage people to use the Greenbelt for leisure. All things which can help protect our countryside for generations to come.

£200 will pay for a planning campaigner to take a day’s workshop.

You'll See The Difference...

Our workshops give campaigners the tools to protect England’s countryside.

We’ll be busy training volunteers over the summer, and in November we’ll show you some of the workshops your donations funded, and the campaigns that were run as a result.

The UK countryside is part of our natural heritage, one of our most valuable national assets and should not be plundered for short term gain - once lost its value will never be regained.
