Set up a support group for parents of premature babies
SET UP A SUPPORT GROUP FOR PARENTS OF PREMATURE BABIESHow do I do that?By ensuring our parent volunteers have the tools they need to start up local support groups. We currently have 80 groups in the UK, but with over 80,000 babies born prematurely or sick each year, there’s always a need for more. What does it cost?£500 will cover everything from the cost of interviewing potential volunteers, individual training in listening and communication skills, providing leaflets on issues affecting special care babies and practical help such as the cost of travel to and from meetings. When will I see the difference? When we've raised enough to set up two new support groups (£1000). What will I see?The parents who take part will show you how their group has helped more families through their toughest times.
Tell me more...Every parent has experienced a moment when their child was suffering, and they didn’t know how to help. Through Bliss, parents can help support each other at the time they need it most. Bliss Support Groups unite parents of premature babies¸ who often feel isolated, disempowered and worried about the health of their child. Because it can be easier to ask someone with similar experiences questions like ‘What does this medical term mean?’ and ‘How do I keep things going at home whilst I’m tied to the hospital?’ Bliss finds parents of premature or sick babies to start local support groups. These parents understand the trauma and difficulties of having a baby who needs special care and provide invaluable local support for families during their baby's stay in hospital and once their baby has come home.
